The price of anything is the amount of life you exchange for it.  - Henry David Thoreau

We are all, every one of us, constantly bartering something. At work we trade our time and energy for money. The money is traded for food, clothing and shelter. The food we eat and the rest we take give us the energy to start the process all over again the next day. In a perfect world, these would all be equal exchanges.

We do not live in a perfect world, and most of us are expending more energy than we're receiving in return. And we are freaking exhausted.

Fu is what you exchange for literally everything in your life.

Maybe you call it bandwidth, wherewithall, spoons, or fucks - I call it Fu and I'm giving less and less every day.
If I want to eat and have a place to lay my head, I have to give my Fu to my job. If I want my home to be peaceful and happy, I have to give my Fu to my family. If I want my relationships to be successful I have to give my Fu to my partner and my friends. This Fu distribution is necessary, exhausting and 100% worth it.

Losing your shit because the person in front of you has 13 items in the 12 Items or Less Express Lane is a stupid way to spend your Fu. Ruminating all day over that situation is an even bigger waste of Fu. Sharing your bad experiences with everyone you meet is a giant Fu suck. This is why we're exhausted.

The Fu I have wasted in my life could power the eastern seaboard for 100 years.

I have poured Fu into unhealthy relationships, comparison, others' expectations, my appearance, social media bullshit and a million other things - many over which I have NO CONTROL. What a dumbass!

For my health - physical, mental, and emotional - I have to be selective about how I spend my time, energy, and attention. Just because I fling it out doesn't mean I'm getting anything of value in return.

I am learning to budget my daily allowance of Fu like a miser. The less I waste on inconsequential nonsense, the more I save and like a Roth IRA the balance in my Fu account is growing on it's own. Having a Fu nest egg means I'll have what I need to meet whatever life throws at me. Being selective with Fu distribution means I can cry when I desperately need to.

Fu is Time, Fu is Energy, Fu is Attention

And that's the TEA.
